Some things never get better.

I just got done watching “The Road.”  I thought it was really good – after the bump is a list of movies / books / games that fall into the same category.

Oh, and I also quit smoking.  It’s like five days now.  Quitting has always been hard – but not picking the habit back up has always been harder.  Here’s to being determined.

Ok – a list of things that are like “The Road” for one reason or another:

  1. Fallout – A series of post nuclear role playing games for the PC (and xbox).
  2. Mad Max – Er, you know – Mel Gibson, gimp leg, Master-Blaster running Bartertown, etc.
  3. Omega Man – Chuck Heston in a bad interpretation of “I Am Legend”
  4. Last Man on Earth – Vincent Price in a bad interpretation of “I Am Legend”
  5. I Am Legend – An awesome story about vampires that spawned an awful movie starring Will Smith.
  6. World War Z – Max Brooks first-person narrative of the survivors of the zombie war.
  7. Farnhams Freehold – Heinlein story about post-nuclear survival, with twists.
  8. The Walking Dead – Follow a group of survivors of the zombieocalypse – on 11, in trades.  (Thanks for the reminder, Cap’n!)

Aaron just watched it and said it was insanely depressing.  I disagree.  What’d you think?

It’s all right to miss your little friends. They were always there for you when you felt good and when you felt like shit. And miss them you will. I still miss my friends after 6 years. My brother admits to missing his friends after 34 years. Not all the time. But to turn your back on your private passion, such as smoking is, is brave indeed. If you are ready, it is time to say good bye to your friends.

I haven’t had a chance to see the film yet, but I loved the book! The wife and I started a book club of two a few years ago, and that was our first selection. It worked great for us, because she likes books on Oprah’s list and I like post-apocalypse fiction. I get the feeling the film is a bit cheerier than the book, but I probably wouldn’t call either depressing. Then again, I love the post-apocalypse! Of your others on the list, I am a huge fan of Fallout 3 and World War Z. Some of my other favorites are a couple of comics – The Walking Dead and Crossed.

Tyler Note: Added Walking Dead (How did I forget!?!) and will now be forced to check out Crossed.

“Max Max”? Yeah, I’m a typo nazi. Deal.

    Love ya, though. =)
